Looking at buying '99 f-150 v6

Hey,

Looking at a '99 4.2 f-150 ,LB, RC here in AZ......

Obviously very clean, white, 5-spd, 2wd. It's got 115K......

I've owned a lot of ford trucks....

Clutch seems a little sluggish, started good but I'm asking anyone what I'm not seeing..........
I've owned many Rangers, and miss my '95 f-250 351 W that was a serious workhorse.
I've raced an '01 Cobra stang and REALLY miss my '01 Bullitt.....

OK, big deal, I just want to know what to llok out for on this '99 4.2, f-150 , 5-speed,2wd,reg. cab LB.......It's got 115K and was owned by a 69-year old man. Any help is appreciated....THX -JB

The body is really clean, missing tailgate- big deal...
I'm not familiar with the 4.2. I'm familiar with the 3.0, 2.0, 4.6, 5.0, and 351...
When opening the hood and looking, what are the major tip-offs...Are there any recalls?
Thanks
JB

Biggest issue with them was the intake gaskets IIRC, not sure if they ever fixed it. Search 4.2L in this forum and plenty will come up.

I'm not sure about any major flaws or problems with the 4.2s but my wife drives a 97 f150 with the 4.2 and over 200,00 miles on it and it still runs like new my 2000 f150 lariot 4x4 has the 5.4 with 237,000+ on it with no problems but I am religious about changing the oil and keeping up the maintenance on both of them.

My understanding is that the intake manifold gasket issue was only in the 97-98 trucks with the v6. With 99 you should be fine.

yep, but if you buy the truck, watch your water closely. if it goes down slowly, start looking.....usually when bad enough, wil hydrolock. and do some damage. but if doesnt leak, the engines hold up and will go over 200K. I sold one truck with the 4.2, and its still going with almost 260K on it.

I bought my 99 4.2 a few months ago and it has 314,000km or 196,000 miles. Runs well. They seem to be pretty reliable engines.
