Interesting vehicle. The California Dept of Transportation ( Cal Trans ) purchased a lot of these back in the day. The worst thing I see is the cheapo paint job ( big mistake) worth more left all original orange. Notice the way they were equipped, which is not common during this era. 6 cyl, automatic trans power brakes. Designed to be driven by a non-professional driver when new. Large front fenders are correct, because this truck came with optional 17.5" one piece wheels when new. .1966 Ford f100 Shortbed Stepside truck - $1200 (san rafael)

 

17.5 one piece wheels in 5x5.5 bolt pattern? says who.... i would think a big wheel like that would only be for 8 lugs. 16 inch in a 5 lug pattern, yes. i had a set of those.

 

Looks like a $500 truck at best.

 

Says me, someone who sold these trucks to CT when new and Ford Motor Co. Is this the nay sayer " if I never seen it, it doesn't exist" mentality you spread in the AZ chapter? I would never join your chapter, nothing to learn about correct history. Do you have any facts and documentation at all on these trucks?

B6D-1015-B .. 19.5" x 5.25" 8 lug 6.50" bolt circle wheel.

 

Here in centrial NY that is a steal.

An odd truck...but regardless of the wheels on it originally, it has what appears to be run of the mill 5 lug aftermarket wheels on it...the truck has been used and abused i would say by the ton of bondo on the LR cab corner and RF fender..and then theres the bed rust...its a west coast rig...but San Rafael is in the San Francisco bay area...thus near salt air for who knows how long. The dash has been hacked, and so on and so forth...bumpers are bent or not a type I would have thought CalTrans would have used. its a 6 cylinder...the good...its an automatic and if OE is a good find as is the column, power brake booster is original to it it would appear.
IMHO and given as many of these trucks ive seen for sale and in wrecking yards up and down the west coast...thats a 500 rig at best...Ive seen rough trucks here in Wa/Or over the years where it rains or is wet out more then dry in better condition for 5-750 fairly common until CL and ebay came along and suddenly everyone thinks their old ancient car/truck is worth alot more then it is in reality.

You forgot to mention the 1967/72 radio antenna, the ill-fitting 1973/79 low mount swing-lok mirrors and the aftermarket taillamps.

Rear bumpers were optional and since Cal-Trans bought the cheapest possible trucks, it probably didn't come w/a rear bumper originally.

Another thing to consider before buying this 'bagel' (used car dealers term for a 'rat' aka a worn out vehicle). Cal-Trans drove these trucks into the ground, so the fact it has survived is remarkable.

But, by now, will most likely require a complete powertrain overhaul, new steering/suspension and brake parts as well. As a parts truck, it's worth maybe 2-3 bills.

 

Way to go Tripleframe! Take a teaching opportunity and turn it into a personal attack and yet another opportunity to demonstrate your vast knowledge completely devoid of tact!

 

The response "says who..." sounded like a personal challenge to me. If that comment was not in his response, surely I would have responded in another way, just showing the wheel chart. Now, here is an actual Cal Trans F100 back in its prime, yes , its a 1/2 ton F 100,6 cyl. beige color steering wheel, large fender cut outs and 17.5" rims ( notice how small the hubcap looks on this rim?). It would'nt be too hard to get the truck for sale to look this this agian, but finding the original rims will be extremely difficult.

 

It's a shame its been repainted would be nice to see how the original color would of looked on it. I kind if like the orange inside with the black.
