I want Bucket Seats for a '55 F100

I want to install a set of bucket seats in my F100. However, I'm not sure what seats would look and feel best. So far, I've seen possible solutions on Craigslist. But, I'm unwilling to take the plunge w/o seeing if they're a good fit.

In 2012, I went to the F100 Western Nationals and I guy told me to look for 1997 F150 split seats. I would like to have a center console as well.

Can anyone provide any advice/suggestions on a good set of used seats. I don't have a lot of cash, so spare me a recommendation for Glide seats. That's an expensive solution for a driver.

Thanks.

I didn't go the bucket path - I was going to but with our new family addition I accounted for 3 in the cab. I grabbed a 60/40 split from a silverado in the bone yard and had the upholstery redone. Here's a shot of them out of the truck and another with them as I mocked them in. The center section of the 60 is a fold down console:

These turned out to be super comfortable.

I gotta look back at my receipt from the pick n pull. The year I pulled them from is on there - just cannot remember. Will check tonite.

They fit great, I have about 1.5" of space on each side from the edge of seat to the door.

I paid 75.00 plus a little tax for it. This particular 60/40 is two physical separate sections. Which is why you see the square bar assembly I fabbed in that first shot. I searched for a while to find something more ready to fit, but I couldn't find anything and decided to give this a shot. Worked out and I'm plenty happy with it.

Last year while I was considering bucket seats, I kept going back to seats from Ford Rangers,Escorts and also GT Probes. They all were small and low so it would not fill up the rear window. I decided to stay original as possible, however, and recovered the original bench.

I put the '97 60/40 seat in mine. You end up sitting 4-6" off of the center of the steering wheel. It gets painful after a hour or so.

Electric heated leather from a 96 explorer. They look very similar to the jeep seats above. I will be installing them in my 49 which has the smaller cab but with 1.5" at the doors I still have a 6-8" space for a console. And you wouldn't need the heated ones down there probably. Here, well thats another story.

I've got heated backs and butts in my Suburban and love them. Feel good after a long day. And I'm 150 miles south of Jack.

I'm looking for aftermarket or take outs also but not willing to mortgage again

Be mindful of your legroom when choosing seat. Any additional padding o the seat back has to come from somehwere in these little cabs. I am running stock seat frame, slightly over padded. I am going to do surgery on my hanging pedals soon to try and gain another inch or so of leg room.

I used mid 2000 Blazer/Bravada seats, mostly because they had the seat belts in the seat. (Most cabs don't have great locations which are strong enough to mount belts - the forces are tremendous and will rip right out of sheet metal). Here's some picts of the seats in the '47 and I also used them in my '51 panel.

I dyed them...

Made frame for console and seat mount.

i'm thinking lincoln mark 8 or navigator seats.. nice and comfortable and plenty of room… may not have much room left for a console or booster seat for a small occupant. due to requirements for safety restraints for the little ones..

F150: 1997/03 and 2004 'Heritage' will be the same.

Marty at SoCal Truck Wrecking in LA (8229 S. Alameda, just N of Firestone Blvd) has 100's of different seats. Whiz over there (closed weekends) or give him a call: 323-587-3144.

I really like the look of those seats and would love to know what year they came out of as well. I personally don't like the headrests sticking out the back window. I really like the look of the 60's mustang seats but I'm sure no where near as comfortable as those chevy seats and the center seat is a nice plus.

Does the steering wheel line up in the center of the drivers seat? This seems to be the trick to getting a good fitting full size seat.
