the wrong fuel - big mistake

One of my biggest concerns is that one day I will pump regular gas into my diesel engine and cause big repair bills. Pumps that have diesel many times have the gas pump right beside them and the colors of the pump aren't always clear. But what about when it is the gas stations fault and not the consumers fault that the wrong fuel gets into your tank???

See the article below and hope you don't get nightmares.

Calgary gas station mistakenly fills regular pumps with diesel fuel

Yep, can't control that.
They'll have to fix it when they have a mistake like that.
If it were gas in diesel, that would be an expensive one for the station.

Its funny cause yesterday I was fueling up out of town, and in my head I was thinking man that would suck if they accidentally had gas in the diesel tank here. Get home and read about this with the diesel in the gas, made me chuckle a bit. I fill up at the co-op where I live every time. Part of the calgary co-op

They got lucky in this case, diesel in a gas tank will do far less damage than gas in the tank of one of these trucks. Most of them will be back running again with new filters and a flushed out fuel system, but any common-rail diesel engine would require HPFP and injector replacement.

Had it here at the local swipe and go station. The fuel truck driver swapped the diesel with gas. Over 30 vehicles affected before they shut the pumps down. Worst was the VW diesels. Heavy trucks needed a flush, VW's required new pumps and injectors. Not sure about any light diesels but they reviewed sales and contacted everyone who bought fuel. Stand up deal if you ask me.wasn't cheap I bet !!

That's what liability insurance is for. I'm sure it's not as uncommon as we think.

I often have to double check the pump after pumping a few gallons and make sure it's diesel. A fellow member once posted about a mix up in handle colors. Diesel was yellow in that area and then came E85 which was also yellow. We tend to get so repetitious in our lives, most diesel handles are green and in the left around here.
