1951 f1 gas tank help
I am trying to decide on whether or not to move the gas tank on my f1. How much room does it free up in the cab to position the seat back, since I am over 6ft. If I choose to move the tank, what tanks would fit under the bed. Any other suggestions on tackling this job would be appreciatied, thanks.

It's been pretty much everybody's experience that you really won't gain much room at all (if any) by moving the tank. Even the stock seats pretty much almost touch the back glass. Unless you literally want to stand your seat back straight up at a very unnatural 90 degree angle (or you have custom built-in seats), I don't think you'll get an advantage.

Good deal. Gotta any pics of your new truck? There are reasons to relocate the tank, especially if you need more space behind the seat. And there is always a big debate about which is safest--behind the seat or between the frame rails. You have to make that decision for yourself. But, in the meantime, I don't think you're gonna find a ton more leg room by moving it. It's just a matter of geometry and how the back of the seat has to angle back anyway. Some others may disagree, but that's what I've experienced with a stock truck and a truck with an aftermarket Ford Ranger seat. Show us pictures!!

My stock seat, and now my ranger seat both hit the back of the cab before they hit the gas tank. I left my tank behind the seat for several reasons. I don't see the safety issue. The tank is narrower than the frame, and is narrower than the seat. The cab, frame and seat will be crushed in a t bone before reaching the tank. I keep a spare tire under the rear of the bed in the stock location, right where a rear mounted tank would go. I use a non vented cap, with a rollover valve vented to under the cab. The fuel pick up is relocated to the top of the tank, and I've boxed the tank in so there are no fumes in the cab. Others may disagree, but I'm satisfied with the stock tank location. In the end, however, it's your truck.

The existing paint looks great! I'm a huge fan of red, so I wouldn't change that until something went wrong with it. Of course, then I'd repaint it red again...
