Double valve springs?

What is the purpose of double valve springs?

To control the valve action in high RPM and high lift applications. Dynamically, a single spring wouldn't have time to react and would bounce/float.. the added pressure of the inner spring metes that tendency that a single spring would suffer from...

Also distributes the higher spring rate over a larger area on the retainer and the seat.
