86 Ranger, won't start.... Need Help Please!
I have heard from a few people that it might be the computer that is messed up. Just replaced cap and rotor, spark plugs, wires, fuel filters. Pump turns on. Cranks and cranks but won't start. Took the intake cover off and tried starting it, all it did was back fire. Checked the firing order and everything is right. So im left with guessing at the computer and ignition?? would like to have a better idea before I start tearing into it any more.

Welcome to FTE.
Did this problem come about suddenly after some event????
Takes fuel, air, spark & compression to make em run, so whats going missing????
If it back fires, kinda sounds like you might have spark, but use your inductive timing light on any plug wire to safely make sure.
Make sure all plug wires are properly routed & plugged in on both ends.
If spark is ok, then mesure fuel pressure at the under hood fuel rail schrader valve test port & post the number. You likely have two fuel pumps, a low pressure feed pump in the tank & a high pressure one under the cab on the frame rail, that pumps the injector pressure up. So, make sure both pumps run at KOEO for a couple of seconds & cut off, to pressurize the system for a start.
If fuel pressue is low, pull the fuel rail mounted fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose. to see if its wet inside with fuel, if it is, the fuel pressure regulator diaphragm is leaking, so replace the regulator. If the regulator checks out ok, again make sure Both fuel pumps run.
If they do, then check delivery rate over time to see if its flow volume is low.
By then you should have an idea whats going missing.
Don't throw parts at the problem, take the time to do a proper trouble shoot, get a positive result, Then replace the problem part.
A bunch of thoughts for consideration. Keep us posted on your trouble shoot.

Nothing happened to cause this, it just happened all of a sudden. Driving home, and pulled over to take a call. While it was idling it just died. Haven't actually checked both of the pumps(will do asap) but it seems as it is getting plenty of fuel, as after cranking for a while you can tell it gets flooded. First thing I checked was a ground wire for the fuel pump, I had that come loose on me before. So assuming with that I have fuel, I have spark, and its getting air. With those three I should have compression? After reading some other posts as well, I have seen one guy talk about doing a code "dump"?? to reset it? Any thoughts on that?? Thanks for your help.

You can learn how to scan the computer for trouble codes here. Fuel Injection Technical Library » How To Run a Self-Test
