06 5.4 rough idle and fuel smell

Ok new issue that started yesterday only get it at idle. Runs great above idle no real power loss or change in fuel econ. Havnt really had a chance to test much.

I was thinking maybe a injector issue but I don't know

It could be a canister purge valve emmitting the fuel smell. If you over-filled the tank by squeezing in another 1/2 gallon or so after the pump shuts off could be the cause. I'd run a code scan to get more direction.

There could be pending codes stored in the computer.

If you have changed your plugs recently, check to see if you have a loose spark plug. I had heard of this happening and then it happened to me. I found the loose one and problem solved. Hopefully that's all it is in you case.

Nope no new plugs.

It is making the poof sound like it has a leaky header. And when i turn on the recirculation on the hvac the smell goes away

And i checked for codes and nothing

It could be a plug issue. If a plug has worked loose or maybe broken some how that would give a cracked header sound as well as the fuel smell you are experiencing without setting a code.

I can't believe it but I think I solved the issue and all I did was an oil change. I had about 5.5 liters of mobil 1 5w20 and about a half of bottle of lucas. So today I just drained that and put in 6l of just 5w20 and so far its back to normal

Man I didn't think lucas would cause that many issues

I wouldn't know about the Lucas as I have never used any oil additives. Just 5w20 Mobil 1. I'm glad the problem is gone for you. That's much easier than changing plugs or an exhaust manifold.

Perhaps the Lucas was playing havoc with the cam phasers. Don't know, just a guess. I have never used any additives as I feel the oil will do its job if you run the proper grade and spec of oil. I'm just glad all is now well with your truck.

I have seen problems with the VCT solenoids if you do not use the proper weight oil . It can cause some strange problems , missfires ect.

have the same engine with the same rough idle. What temperatures are you using 5W20 I use 5W30 in Queensland Australia do you think this could be an issue?
