MAF Conversioon Time!

MAF Conversioon Time!
I'm going to do a MAF conversion on my truck, probably getting the parts this weekend. I have an 86 with a 5.0 and I just rebuilt it and got it going again. So, even with a million threads on this, I thought I'd ask some non redundant questions. Research shows me that all 5.8's are the 1-3-7.... firing order and 94 and up 5.0's are also the 1-3-7.. firing order. (same with mustangs but there are none at the scrap yard I go to) . Now, I plan on taking everything I can from a truck and just using it on mine. (I changed cams so I have the same firing order as those listed above and wont have to move the pins around)
I haven't ever pulled the computer out of one of these trucks, so I wanted to know what are some tips/tricks to getting one of these out safely without harming anything. I haven't even touched the one on my truck, but I was told its in the cab on the firewall?

The only thing you need to do to safely remove the computer is disconnect the battery FIRST, then unbolt the wiring harness at the firewall from the engine bay side, and dig the computer out from it's pocket in the drivers side kick panel inside the cab. Tip: Lubricate the rubber gasket with some petroleum jelly(vasoline) before trying to reinstall a computer.. it'll go in much easier. You will have harness repining to do as well regardless what computer you use, the '86 truck is a bit of an anomaly with a computer pinout that doesn't match anything else, and most MAF trucks had a computer controlled transmission that complicates using the computer without one attached, so I'd suggest you buy a Mustang A9P/A9L and matching MAF meter online somewhere.
