Possible donor drive shafts?

I am working on my 53 F100 and planning on installing a Blue Print 347 motor AOD trans and 9" rear. Does any one have any suggestions for a possible donor drive shaft? I have been reading alot of the posts on here and all have been very helpful. The current set up is a 302 with C6 and 8"rear.

Thanks
Dingo

Welcome to FTE.
I would suggest waiting until you permamently mount the rearend and transmission then measure it. You may be able then to find a replacement. But my preference would be to take the measurement to a driveline shop and have one made. Then you know you are getting a straight and balanced driveshaft with fresh u joints.

It seems awkward, but whenever you "insert a picture" to one of these threads, the forum is looking for the picture somewhere on the web (which is always available) rather than from somewhere on your hard drive (which isn't always available).

Go to Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket and sign up for a free account. Then create an album for your truck. Upload any pics you want to post on FTE to that album. Have this album open on your computer when you want to post pics on FTE.

While you're making a post on FTE, select the pic you want to post from your Photobucket album. When the large version of the pic is open, right mouse click on it and select "View Image Info". The image info will be highlighted and will look something like this:
The best photos and videos | Photobucket

Copy that highlighted info (right click / copy).

When you have the spot in your post where you want the pic to be placed, select the "Insert Image" icon at the top of the post (looks like a mountain) and paste (right click / paste) the image info you copied in the highlighted box (just shows "http://" when it opens).

Your pic will be placed in the post.

Hope that helps.

Very Nice.
I caught where you layed your seats out with room for the cooler. For your cold "water".
I understand the "make it your own" thought but I would run that 302 until it puked before I swapped engines. That would give time to lay everything out and have all the horses in a row so the driveline swap could be accomplished in a weekend. But this is just my thinking.

Hello and welcome to FTE!

Nice looking truck! On the driveline, what are you changing from? If you have a current driveline, it should be correct on the rear end. As Carolina 52 points out, call a local driveline shop. They'll want to know the distance from the tailshaft to the center of the yoke on the rear end. On my 52 I have a donor engine from an F150...so 351w with a C6. I grabbed the driveshaft from the donor and had it cut down. The local shop here charged under $200 to cut down the driveline, put a yoke on the back end, and put new U-joints on both ends. It included balancing and painting.

302 is a 68 and has seen better days. Selling one of my custom bikes to pay for the 53 rebuild. Gonna do motor, trans and rear all at once. Working on the easy must haves now. Vinyl seats don't work well in AZ even with cloth covers.

I have a 5.0 and AOD with a 8.8 rear end and I was able to grab a drive shaft out of 88 ranger single cab. Fit perfectly. My truck is a 51.

Current drive shaft is gonna be too short. Going from a C-6 to an AOD. Local shop said they can take care of it once all the other work is done and give them the measurements.

I see. You can probably sell all of your swap outs here in the classified section to help fund your project as well. It would be helpful if you could pull a compression check and leak down test just so you know what you have. Your current setup tends to be a desirable combination to alot of members.
