Real Deal on the 6.4

The more I read on the 6.4 the more I hear about the bad gas milage. I read alot about people saying you can increase the milage by installing chips, computers, exhaust, etc. Does anyone know if this if for sure. If so what does the 6.4 get from the factory and what does it get with all the extras.

What do you have to do / install to get these results.

Thanks

Scott

from what ive read and heard is a stock 6.4 averages nearly the same as a V10. my buddy has a 6.4 thay towed a boat 2 weekends ago 450 miles and averaged 16 mpg at 70 mph on hilly land. He is DPF Deleted and H&S custom tuned runnin the 80 horsepower tow setting. stock tires with i believe 3.73 gears. i know hes got crazy bucks in the exhaust and tuner but i dont have an actual price tag.

i would drop into the 6.4 section and read up there and ask questions

Yes, stock they are pigs on fuel, very low teens with a 4wd. Get rid of the DPF and subsequent regen cycle, which wastes around 2 gallons of fuel each cycle, and you'll increase to mid teens, towing goes from 9-11mpg to low teens after the delete. EPA is cracking down on the tuners and there won't be any left sooner rather than later. Delete of just the DPF and tuner needed cost me around $1300. That will pay for itself in 1 year of just fuel savings.

So if it gets the mpg as the V10 is there an advantage going to the 6.4 or not?

The advantage is the increase towing capacity for the long hauls.

If you are just local or use the truck as a commuter then go gas.

For what it is worth I get about 13 locally and about 16-17 hwy running empty and 7-9 towing heavy.
