Shock extension for my '79 F100

I'm hoping someone can give me some help here. I'm after some 2" shock extenders for the rear of my '79 F100. It's a 9 inch diff and I've measured the lower shock mounting brackets and they're about 35mm (1 3/8") wide.

I've found some Western Chassis extenders on Summit Racing's website but the application guide for them only goes back to an '82 F100. Does anyone know if the lower bracket for an '82 is the same as on my '79?

Thanks,
Chocko.

Visit Summit Racing again.....Mr. Gasket (a brand name) offers a line of shock extenders.

HIO, thanks for your reply.

I've just had another look at Summit. I've searched both 'shock extender' and 'shock extensions' and Mr Gasket come up in the results as well as Belltech and Western Chassis and some others but I still can't find a kit specific to my '79.

Mr Gasket do make a universal kit, maybe that would do the job but I'm in Australia and if I order stuff without knowing exactly if it will fit then it's not worth the freight to send stuff back for exchange so the whole exercise can get expensive quickly.

whats a shock extender and why would you want one? I would think it would be about the same amount of work and surely not much more money just to swap the shocks out to the correct length, no?

just googled them, I guess people use them to gain clearance between the axle and the shock? Mine were pretty tight, but with the trailmaster shocks it just cleared. haven't had any issues so far but yet to do any real wheeling. If I was doing it over I'd buy some with offset mounts, rather than use an extender.

I've lowered my truck and with the ride height it's at it's awkward to get a correct length shock so that's why I'm after some shock extenders so I can use a slightly longer shock absorber.

I've fitted DJM gear front and rear and the DJM guys recommended a 1415 and 1910 shock but the front shock is too short and the rear shock is too long! My fault for not measuring accurately before I ordered them.

I've found some KYB shocks locally and the front is fine for length/stroke etc. but the back shocks would be a little too close to fully compressed if the rear bottomed out. Some shock extenders would give me a margin.

the lower shock mounts should all be about the same width... a google search makes me think these are pretty common for the jeep guys. I'd bet they would fit our trucks, the shock eyelets should be the same. My trailmaster shocks were actually a jeep application but their system showed they would fit.

I've just been doing some research myself and I reckon you're right. I've been meaning to order a timing light from Summit for a couple of weeks now, might as well do it and get them to put some extenders in as well.

Thanks for your input.

summit also stocks shocks with offset lower mounts, so that may help your problem if you just swap shocks... thats what I'll be buying if/when I replace these trailmaster (hopefully not soon since they were new just a few months ago).
