Swapping the 370 for a 460... any issues?
One of my 79's.. the 2wd has a 370. I have a new 460 that I would like to swap into it. Are there any issues that I will need to consider? The 460 is complete and dressed. If Im going to get crappy mileage I might as well have the power
( and yes I understand a diesel swap would be the way to go.. I just have an extra new 460 laying around in the shop that I had built for another truck)
Thank you

Post 2 here. Crank snout, front cover, other items. Crank snout difference is the deal killer:

I think I might be missing something... (BTW I appreciate the input)....
I was going to remove the 370 as a complete engine.. all accessories... and reinstall the 460... complete engine with all accessories..pulleys,, alternator.. PS pump.. everything
(This f600 is manual steering and I was going to put a PS box on it)
From what I gleaned from the post was that none of the pulleys or accessories are interchangeable.. which in my case isnt an issue because the 460 is a complete.. or did I misread the post and are there further issues?
I see I will have to do a different upper radiator hose.. are there other things that wont fit?... Will the cast iron timing cover needed for the engine mount be adaptable to the LT 460 block?
My transmission is a 285v 5 speed manual...
Thank You

370 TO 460
The pilot bearing will work OK. You can adapt the front mount to the 460 with some work. If you use the 370 front cover there is a seal available that will work. I looked up the OD i needed and the ID i needed and found a seal that works. The dual themostast housing will bolt to your intake so the top hose will fit. You can swap the front timing cover and it will work , if you have power steering only one belt will fit. If you use the 370 front cover the spacer that the seal rides on must be machined as the cover moves the seal farther out. It is a easy swap remember that the 370 and 429's are neutral balenced so you need to use an older neutral balenced 460 , or have the flywheel balenced to match. Thats all I can think of right now, if you have any questions let me know. I did this swap on my 81 L800 , took a 370 and installed a 460. I could'nt believe the difference in power and I got better fuel milage.
