how much rear suspension travel? setting shock hieght, 4 inch lift, 77.5 f250,
Im putting a 4 inch rough country lift on my 77.5 (lowboy) f250.
Im using the shocks that came with the kit,
I had to replace the shock mounts on the rear axel,
the shocks that came with the kit have 10 inches of travel.
when I welded the lower mounts on the axel i set the shocks at the mid way of travel so i have 5 inches of travel up and 5 inches of travel down. I would like to keep the mounts where there at because they dont hang down below the axel tube. Do you think the suspension with collapse anymore than 5 inches? Do I risk bottoming out the shocks?

You should be ok, are you ever going to load the bed with a ton of dirt ect....? I doubt those springs will flex individually that much off roading.
But if you load the bed and compress it straight down thats a little different story. You do still have the bump stops on the frame and on the stock blocks right?

ya, or firewood, it is my main utility truck
I took the stock ones off, they would be to high with the lift anyways, i could buy some longer stops and fab up a bracket

As far as the shock travel concerns, any way you can cycle the suspention in a controlled environment. Know any one with a fork lift or a backhoe? A simple compression ck would work, as long as your rear bumper can take it.
You could always get some bolt on coil or spring overloads and at least have a bump stop to stop from going far enough to brake something.
If none of that is available I guess the first time you go to stacking a cord or 2 of green fire wood on it, keep and eye on how far it moves.
And remember when driving it, it will have some additional weight forces from turning left and right to factor in when it comes to cking clearances.
