Torn apart '12 F-150

I thought that there might be some interest in seeing what is under the sheet metal.
We have a 2012 in the shop that was swiped across the front end.

The intake is removed to lift the powertrain

Very interesting is it going to be a total with the bent frame?? Fully boxed frame doesn't look so tough there??

The frame has a splice in the mid point.
The last photo shows the half after it has been separated.

The truck in fact has a union in the brake lines as a separation point at the splice point.
You can look at any new truck and see the junction outside the frame on the drivers side.

In fact the truck has many designed in features to allow such a repair.
The separation was done with the engine, transmission and front suspension still in place.

The new frame section was joined to the rear portion.
The power train was lifted out of the old front section.
Then the suspension was removed from the old front section.

The steering rack and front differential were removed.
The brake system ( ABS pump and lines ) was the last off the old frame portion and the first onto the repaired frame.

Note: The steering rack is an electrically driven unit.
It is sealed. There is no power steering pump on the engine.
It was installed along with the differential.

The suspension assemblies were installed.
Then the power train was dropped in place.

The drive shaft was connected as the engine and transmission went into place.
The exhaust connections were made.

I was greatly impressed with the design.
