I never thought much of the steering wander because my daily driver is a Jeep JK wrangler on 37's so wander is....kind of normal....lol.
Anyway, does this sound like a replacement is in order? If so, count me in for 1 box for an '04 Excursion.

Thanks
If, at a complete stop while running, you can turn your wheel to the left and right without any tire movement, and the rest of your steering is in good shape, then yes it is slop in the steering box.
If your steering is tight and any small movement moves the tires then you have wandering issues likely caused by weaker leaf springs, or a lack of a sway bar.
Hope that helps you out

Well I do have a swaybar and my front springs are brand new and much stiffer than the stock ones they replaced. So given everything else is tight count me in for a steering box for an '04 excursion.

Thanks

I assume those shipping prices still apply but are restricted to the states
You also need to pay shipping for the core return as well

VERY USEFUL INFO!

On this, it depends on what the application is.
From a high of $446 exchange for the 07 1/2 to 2010 SuperDutys.
$396 exchange for the 05 to 07 1/2 SuperDutys.
$346 exchange for the 2000-2004 SuperDutys.
$326 exchange for the 77 1/2-79 F-250 and 350 4x4s.
Also, $326 exchange for 76-79 F-150 4x4 and 78-79 Broncos.
$286 exchange for the late 97-99 F-250s and F-350s with 32 splined output shafts---not with 36 spline.
$256 exchange for the 80-97 1/2 F-150 through F-350 2wd, 4wd, vans, rangers, etc.
$256 exchange for 1970-79 F-150, F-250, and F-350 2wd.
$456 exchange for the 1965-69 2wd with BENDIX power steering gear.
$326 exchange 68-75 1/2ton 4x4 with manual steering.
Same for 68-75 Bronco with manual steering.
$236 exchange 65-79 F-100 through F-350 2wd with manual.
$396 exchange 1968-77 1/2 F-250 and 350 4x4 with and without power steering. Same steering gear, different ratio.
$356 exchange 73-77 1/2 F-250 and 350 with BENDIX control valve.
$346 exchange Ram cylinder for same vehicle.
$356 exchange 1975 F-100 4x4 with Garrison Control Valve.
$346 exchange Ram cylinder for same vehicle.
$356 exchange 1968-72 F-250 and 350 with Garrison valve.
$346 exchange Ram cylinder for same vehicle.
$246 exchange 68-74 Econoline Van with or without power steering. Same steering gear, different ratio.
$246 exchange 75-82 Econolines with Saginaw steering gears.

I think that pretty much covers the Ford trucks. Basically, we would do from
5-15 pieces --- $30 discounts on parts over $300 excluding the control valves. $20 discounts on gears under $300.
16-25 pieces --- $40 off on parts over $300 excluding the control valves. $30 discounts on gears under $300.
26-35 pieces ---- $50 off on parts over $300 excluding control valves. $40 on gears under $300.
36 pieces or more ---- $60 off on parts over $300 excluding control valves. $50 on gears under $300.

These discounts would be taken off the prices given above. Control Valves and Cylinders would count in the total number of pieces but would be discounted always at $20 off.

Sure is some tempting ..... I guess I need to decide if I'm keeping her or letting her go? The way it looks, good bet I'll be calling in to Red Head about a week and a half from now. I recently got her back to purt near where she was originally, but she's never been as tight as these newer vehicles.

I just combined some quoted stuff to bring it together for me ... if no one else?

looks like I'll more than likely be in. Checked the play in the wheel today, engine on, had a good couple of inches of play without the wheels moving. Haven't had the front end completely checked out yet however. I am leaving it at the shop while I'm out of town this week to have springs and other stuff put on. Going to have them go over the front end too.

I'm tentative. I wasn't planning on getting a new box for my '79 until summer or next fall, but this is a deal I almost can't pass up... And I can just drive down there.

I'll let you guys know in a few days. I have the money, but it's been in savings for a new car... Wish I had a spare $200...

Wife and I were talking later last night as we watched "Ben Hurr" and she has NEVER liked my '77's steering, not since the one time she drove it when I first got it in 1986. She says if I'm not selling it to fix it. It would be nice to "not" chase it.
So .... as it stands now, I'm gonna make that call December 3rd.

Maybe we do get $60 off after all?

I am in for two.

1 for my 01' Excursion and 1 for my 1978 Bronco.

Please advise on how I should proceed.

Now I have to pray that my money from annual annuities gets here on time! It should, but ya never know.

Being paid once a year sucks sometimes.

If I participate, I have one question;

Since I live near Seattle, and will be going to the shop instead of shipping. Do I call in my order on those days like the rest of you, or do I go to the shop?

Thanks

How does that work? They refund us the core plus the group discount amount?

Yes. I asked them if they charge us the last day when they have a head count so we can get the group buy discount, he said no we will charge you full price at time of order then give you the group buy discount plus core exchange when you return the core.
