ok, so according to another forum post, since my wheelbase is 156 i have a 29 gallon tank. but that cant be right if i just filled a half a tank with 22 gallons. i know before i started filling the neck of the tank, i was at 18 gallons and so i slowed the speed of the gas to the slowest setting and it filled it to about 19. do yall know if i could go 2 a dealer and have them run the vin and tell me what the gallon tank is

What I mean is that on a fuel gauge, full is full and empty is empty (for the most part) but 1/2 a tank on the fuel gauge doesn't always mean you have 1/2 of the fuel remaining. What registers as 1/2 a tank on the fuel gauge might be anywhere from 1/3 to 2/3 full.
On your tank, you say that when you register 1/2 tank, you were able to put in 22 gallons, which means you had roughly 7 gallons remaining. Say the neck holds another gallon or so, so you had 8 gallons. When your gauge says 50%, you really have right around 30% of your fuel left.
So
0% = 0% (empty is empty)
50% = 30% (half isn't half)
100% = 100% (full is full)
That is non-linear.

We have two 07 short bed 6.0Ls, when our "29 gallon" tanks hit the empty light, I can put in 30-32 gallons to fill it up to the neck; it'll take 27ish to the first time a normal pump kicks itself off. But the needle won't go under F for almost 200 miles when it's all the way full, it takes 300-350ish miles to get to the half mark, and after half I can practically watch it drop to empty. Filling up when the needle is at a third can be 25+ gallons easy. Diesel showing in the fill neck, the empty light, and the engine shutting off are the only reliable judges of how much diesel is in the tank (FYI, don't actually run it dry, that can be a $2000 mistake)
