Lightbulb Diesel Ranger from factory

A friend of mine lives in Africa. He drives a crew cab ranger 4x4 5 speed with a turbo diesel in it! Not sure what kind, but I will find out tomorrow. Great driving truck.

I was wondering if anyone new the process, or who I could ask, about importing something like that to the states. I believe Toyotta makes a diesel in there hilux (states it is called tacoma) also.

THANKS !!

Get it shipped here, not that hard. say its for farm work. When it gets here and clears customs and all taxes paid. Then swap cab with a USA model and dont live in a smog state. Thats one way. Other is to have the engine and trans from a diesel shipped here and install. There is a company in Texas that buys cut in half tacomas and does the install into a USA version.

Ford did put out diesel equipped Rangers in the early years...

83-84 had a 2.2L non turbo Perkins (virtually bullet proof).

85-87 had a 2.3L turbo powered Mitsubishi (subject to early death due to timing belt failure) among other issues.

After that Ford abandoned the diesel Ranger, at least in the American market, overseas they were/are still available.

If my Ranger is any indication of their desirability, Ford would do well just to start making them again. Then, put in a reliable small diesel and I might even start thinking about selling the '04 I have. They're a few other manufacturers out there that likely would be happy to provide Ford with a "ministroker".

Alright, I should have been more clear. If you want it to be a daily driver it will be a lot of paperwork, just using it as a offroad or farm truck wouldn't be hard

Which one do you have, the 2.2 Perkins or the 2.3 Mitsu?

To MechoMan88:
Welcome to FTE. This is a great site for all things Ranger.

You said that you don't know how to start a new thread. Near the top of the Ranger Index page (the page that lists all the threads) on the left side is a blue bubble that says "New Thread." Click on that bubble and you are all set to enter your thread.

That's all there is to it.

I'm gonna say it's like mine.

It's a Mazda B series, Perkins motor probably.

They are Thai made and exported around the world. Is it right hand or left hand drive?

You can get them in the Caribbean or maybe Mexico so they are already that close. Or you could buy new in South Africa if you want a new one.

They are great little trucks but the parts support is awful.

VERY GOOD POINT ABOUT SOURCING PARTS.
My friend has a 2.2L 5 speed. Crew cab 4X4 It is fantastic !

I really like the Idea about claiming it as a farm truck. I live in AL, so as long as you got lights and seat belt you can run it.

But then again, you have the whole shipping parts from South Africa issue.

Im still partial to the F250, but that is a whole different ball park.

Is it true Ford is doing a F150 diesel for 2013 ??

Thanks Yall

90% of parts are easily sourced through your local parts house, but engine specific parts can be a real challenge to find.

The parts are out there, but it takes effort to locate them, e.g. Google, Ebay, Obsolete parts dealers, etc.

make it a 2 for 1 deal

I live in MS and would love to get one as well. Let me know if you find out any more info. It may simply be cheaper to get a good ranger and put a 4bt in it. Either way is not cheap.
