Mobil 1 5W/40 diesel oil

Went to O rileys to get the T6 rotella oil that was on sale but the sale ended but they had the Mobil 1 5w/40 on sale for 23.99. Reg price is 29.99 So I bought 5 gal. I cant remember when the sale is over

Tractor Supply had Shell Rotella T 5W-40 synthetic was on sale for $24.99/further savings off $4.99-$19.99 a gallon!!

Locally around me I buy Rotella oil when it is on sale .

Can someone tell me how long it would be recommended to have new oil sitting in those plastic pails sitting on the shelf ?? Does it start to break down or anything ??
