Hesitation on startup 302

I bought a 1996 F150 302, 5 spd with 168K mi. I've done all of the usual new (used) truck stuff. Fluids, filters, flush, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, seafoamed, new belt, battery, thermostat...you name it. One problem I have is that on startup, it cranks right up but immediately stumbles off idle and will occasionally quit. It will start right back up. Also, it doesn't always quit. There are no codes and I have cleaned the throttle body and IAC. New PCV installed. I've put in all new Motorcraft clutch hydraulics, as well. Runs like a champ, only problem is the stumble on starting. Ideas?

when you start it do you just crank it over or do you let the fuel pump prime first?

It has time to prime...I'm thinking the timing chain may need replaced, maybe it's snapping up the slack in the chain when cranked and then relaxing.
