transmission swap

I just picked up a Transmission, with torque converter, transfer case, ect. its a 4x4 auto, E40d trans, the year is a 95, how difficult will this be to swap out? is it just unbolting and unplugging or is there more? also, after the swap is there anything i need to do so the truck nos that theres a new tranny or can i just put the new one in and go?

More Info, what year is your truck, engine 4.9, 5.0, 5.8, 7.5, PSD?, what trans is in it already, C6, M5, AOD, E4OD, ZF? Etc.....

Its a 4.9 straight six. and the tranny i have in it is an e40d also. i just need to change the bad one with the good one.

What year is your truck? What engine is the transmission out of?

The op has stated 95.

He said that's the year of the transmission, not the year of his truck. It does matter.

ok, my truck is a 1995 f150 xl with a 4.9l straight 6 engine with a 4x4 E40d transmission. the other truck was a 95 f150 with a 302 engine with a 4x4 E40d transmission.

ok, sweet, thanks guys, but just of curiosity, if the other motor was a 351 would it still be a direct swap?

It would only make a difference if it was out of a 460 or a diesel.

What Evan P says is correct. The 351 is a small block just like the 302, 300 inline 6. The 460 is a big block so is the diesel so they won't have everything the same.
