CD changer quit

98 Expe EB - My cd changer (in center console) stopped working the other day. When you hit the button on the dash, it cycles thru all the cd's, but wont play any. Then it switches to the radio. I pulled it out and took it apart as much as I could. I couldn't see anything obvious. I cleaned a little dust out of it and put it back together, but it does the same thing. I've been combing craigslist and local junk yards. Haven't found anything yet. I thought I could buy an aftermarket replacement, but I've been told I'd need a new head unit as well. A factory replacement is of course a few hundred $$. So I'll keep looking for a used one. Anyone else have issues with their cd changer?

Everyone does. In dash multi-CD units are all trouble, all brands. Some last longer than others. Aftermarket single player with MP3 is the answer.

Several threads on this in the Escape forum. Someone was trying to fix one, iirc, I think he threw the towel on it after finding he could not get parts.

My mistake. I'm in the wrong forum. FWIW I found one in a junk yard for $60.

That's a good score, and you never know, it could run a long time for you. Good luck with it.
