F-1 Transmission Swap

Folks,

Greetings from Western Canada.

I have a 1951 Ford F-1 with a 1968 Mustang 302 engine and a 3 speed (on the floor) transmission.

The engine is great, The transmission, well that is the reason for this post.

The current 3 speed has the shift linkage on the left side of the transmission case. So far left, it is under your right leg in the 1st - Reverse shifts.

I have contemplated a 5-speed on the floor as well as an automatic with overdrive.

What have others done? What is the best combination?

If I go with the automatic with overdrive, can I keep the shifter on the floor??

I would value any and all input.

Thank you.

Take care.

Tug

T5 from a Mustang with a Chevy S10 tailshaft housing to bring the shifter forward.

OR

AOD from behind a V8 or from a truck from model years '88-'93.

You can install a floor shifter with any automatic.

There is a thread or two on here about the T5.

I'll spend about 90 seconds searching and post a link if I find one.
