Exclamation Fram oil filter change((( new pics loaded))

Changing oil yesterday the Fram oil filter i always use (CH9549) seems to have changed, I thought they were makers of OEM.
I'm curious as to why the change and if i should just change the filter again and get a motorcraft one. Im going to try to post pics of what they sent me and the instructions.

the inside of the filter at top of it has changed and they gave me an insert to install.
anyone heard of this ?

Firstly Racor makes the filter that is required in our trucks. Ford/Motorcraft/International buys them from Racor, repackages them and sells them to us.
Fram does this too, but perhaps their deal with Racor has ended and they are now selling something different as a 6.0 filter?? But only maybe that's the case. If this was the case I think we'd have heard about it on this forum. I bought a Fram filter last week and it was the right one.

What you have in the photo is obviously the wrong filter so I would start by checking the box again. If that is the right box then I believe someone in the store might have switched filters and boxes for some reason only they know.

When I buy a filter from a store I always open the box and check the patent number on the bottom of the filter. (I keep a photo of the base of the filter on my cellphone so I can check)

Too many times I see boxes pulled apart in stores or customers who take stuff out to check it and don't care to put the stuff back correctly. Some kid then who is told to clean up the shelf probably just stuffs parts in the closest box so he can clock out.

Well, that is new!

Did you pick these up at Wal*Mart? I have been seeing reports that those have been changing. Did you happen to see any of the patent numbers on the filter top?

And, I am wondering where they found the different housings?

And, which did you decide to use?

I have never seen so many "aftermarket parts" for one freaking oil filter on one motor!

I don't think I would have put that filter on my motor until I could find out why the parts.

well i already covered those bases, that is the correct filter, size is and everything is the same. I went back to the place of purchased and every box in 2 cases were the same. (new Stock) they always have the right one and these were newly arrived cases of fram. it works, it fits. the inside is different and they give you that adapter to take care of whats different.

this is obvioulsy they way fram is making them now. my question was to see why and to inform anyone else who may run into this and maybe help them make a choice as to run them.

I wouldn't use it!! That is strange looking will say that. There are just too many issues to worry about on the oil filter with the 6.0.
Am interested to see what others have to say about that filter though.

I would not run the truck with that filter until someone who knows something about it to chimes in......

I wonder if it's a change that was made to be certain the drain-back is depressed? Are the numbers on the filter itself identical to the old numbers?

I would think so, as well as not leak at the top of the cap. Still trying to improve on the mouse trap. lol

Need the patent numbers for verification.

Here is a filter I bought out of curiosity.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...es-7-29-a.html

And I wouldn't use that one either.

I went to wally world and bought what is obviously the older one that works so i changed it already.

My racor I am holding in my hand, has the patent #'s 6,986,426 #6,086,763 #6,554,139 #6,983,851 And the #RE 38,917. And #40EFR

Same as your first picture.

I notice the difference inside of the 2 filters, and see where the additional part goes, or fills in a space. I have a MANN filter that is new. It even has the four little tabs inside. Although, it has a ball in the top, like a check valve.

Now, that # CH9549, I have seen before. I need to look back in some info to see where that comes from.

Thank you for taking the time to take those pictures.

Quick search, that #CH9549 is Fram, but no Patent # from Racor.

Now, since you show the inside of the Fram, and seeing what they have needed to add to it for it to work, I'm now wondering if past Fram users have had problems with those older filters.
