Diesel purge: best place to cnct to return line? Line size?
Years with diesel Benzs have taught me the undeniable benefit of running a sick diesel on straight Diesel Purge. So...
Dad's farm pickup: 92 F250 7.3L IDI 116k + farm idle time (zero-blow-by). In 05 relegated to towing jobs only, and has therefore mostly sat in the shed. She starts hard, misses at idle, smokes, and has some possible nailing issues. I've checked the GP system and it seems well (although the WTS light on the dash is out, the relay is doing it's job). So, it's time for a straight shot of Diesel Purge.
So, I plan to run it much as I do in my Benzs. I plan to hook suction line to the fuel pump intake, but... Where is the return fuel line? If I'm seeing right, it comes off the injector return system, and drops off the driver's side rear of motor? Is this the best/easiest place to tie in? And what size fuel line is required? (I'd like to get the line on the way out there, and save an extra trip, if possible) Your experiences?
I'm on a tight schedule with this, as harvest starts Monday, so I'm planning to tackle this today

Between injectors are 5/16 to the tank is 3/8 there is a tee at the back of the engine on the drivers side where the return line goes back to the tank. It would catch all the lines at once. It is 3/8", you can see it here.
These lines are notorious for leaks, you can get a kit to replace them, or do what I did and make your own. There are two o-rings under each plastic cap that need to be replaced also.
Good luck,
Mac.

Depending on the age of the engine, it either has 3/16" or 1/4" return lines.
The smaller 3/16" return lines with the nipples on the plastic caps centered, is for the 6.9 engines and early 7.3 engines (through some of '89).
The larger 1/4" return lines with the offset nipples on the caps, is for later 7.3 engines (some '89, '90+)
The return line to the tank from the back of the engine is 5/16" and thats where you should tie in for your dieselpurge line. The fuel supply line would be 3/8". Now if a previous owner changed things around, those might not be quite right. The return line kits (both sizes) fit all year injectors just fine, but where they tie in at the fuel filter, and the Tee at the back of the engine, is where you'll have some issues connecting the different size lines.

Awesome y'all; yes, 5/16" off the back T, and 3/8" fuel pump inlet. I purchased 8' of 5/16", and 4' of the 3/8, and had a foot or so of each to burn to reach my purge bottle on the ground under the harmonic balancer.
She's been smoking for years - quit that in a matter of minutes. Starts better, and runs smoother (although so far retains a miss/lope at idle, which she's had dang near for ever). I then changed the oil, and fuel filter, and in the end the WTS light began working again. I'm wondering if the WTS light coming to life may have to do with removal of carbon around the glow plugs?
I'm anxious to try a cold start next week.
Anyway, thanks again

$8.99 a can. For many years I too had to order it online, but in the last year or so, many of the NAPA stores in my area carry a decent stock of it. you might try simply calling around, and see if the same is true in your area
PS: I see you too have an F250, a Bronco, and a Mercedes 300 class. We share good taste in viehicles
