Let's Talk Electric Fan Brands

Hey guys imgoing to put some electric fans on my truck soon. I got some questions about what brand fans you guys recomend? I know I can go and get fans off of a taurus and all that but I don't have any pull a parts around here and all the junkyards think they have new parts... Anyways im going to go with two 12" fans I think. I got two questions. How many fans are you guys running/whatsize? and What brand?

What brands have you guys used and what brands are reliable? Im looking to spend no more than $70 a piece for the fans. I know thats kind of low of a price but still. I looked at advance and they have i think its 14" and 16" fans for about $70 or so. I may just go with those but what about other brands?
Mishimoto?
Derale?
Speed unlimited?

Would I be okay with just one big fan? I was thinking about two fans incase one fails? I suppose I could just go with one and watch my temperature gauge?

mass-air.com (also knows as IST [interactive system technologies]) sells a kit where you can keep your stock shroud, I have it, just waiting for winter to get some time under the hood.

The guy (Steve) he runs the truck mass air kits, says its a simple straight forward install, guess I'll know when I dive into it. It's a 12 v system with everything needed, there is a switch, for automatic or on, and I believe it's timed as well, with key off

Well, I put one from advance into my 92 after one of my fan blades cracked and then bent over, cutting a really nice half moon groove into my 3 month old radiator. Couldn't get a replacement fan, stores couldn't order them and I couldn't find any at the local junkyards. So I got the 16" electric one, and a fan control. Took less than an hour to put in and hook up. Been working great so far, and we've had the hottest summer on record here in Michigan. Truck never got above half way on the temp gauge.

What's wrong with a factory fan from a Taurus or Lincoln?
Many people use them.
They move plenty of air.
Parts are readily available.

I may pick up on form advance then.. GotThreeOfThem, how did you mount your fan? and how do you have it wired up? Is it on a thermostat and also come on when the a/c is on?

There is nothing wrong with the lincoln/Taurus fans. I just normally have problems finding them. I would have to order one off of ebay which i suppose is fine but I think im leaning toward the peace of mind knowing that I have a brand new fan on my truck and not a used pull off. However I will look!

That's just it I'm in the same boat, and at least if you buy new it has warranty. Which is why I went IST.

I really like the IST because I think it's going to look factory! Which is always cool
But I think I can go the advance route for about half the price! That would be good because I got a few other small things I want to do as well such as finally getting around to a shift kit and a home made tonneau cover

The fan came with these zip tie like clamps that went through he radiator fins. I wired a mechanical thermostat up to battery hot. It sometimes runs for a couple minutes after the truck is turned off, but that's no big deal.

Fan of fans !!!

XC, I put in an e-fan in my 90 f-250 5.8 and I used a set from a 98 Windstar 3.8 it has 2 fans 1, 13" and 1- 14" for $40 at the local JY. It has worked perfectly for about 6 mo. here in Nevada. We have ad our usual summer 70 days of 100* + temps. I posted my build in an album in FTE . I used a t-stat on the smaller fan and hooked up the larger one to come on with the A/C.

Cutting and fitting was done on the radiator taken out of the truck... check out the album for pics !!! The best advice I can give you is use 60 tom 80 amp relays with 50 amp circuit breakers and heavy enough wire !!! The ONLY failure I had was a 40 amp relay... smoked it !!! Be glad to try to help you if I can. Is your alternator a 130amp 3G ... because you'll need it !!! Dave

Exclamation Ford F250HDXLT, Impressive !!!!

Wow... where were you when I was looking for all that info for my install, Great info, I used a cheapy(less than $18) Hayden controller ... but I did a nice job installing it The controller you listed, the delta unit is a great upgrade from mine ... and is on my bucket list LOL ... the correct relays and circuit breakers are very important and isn't a place to short cut or "make due til"
The installation of the 130 amp. alt. I feel is mandatory !!! Good info to keep... and I will Thanks, Dave
