found a possible truck to replace my f150

ok looking for opinions here.

my truck
1995 f150 351 3:55 4x4 E4OD.

possible truck
1993 f250 4x4 IDI factory turbo. 5speed

ok i hauled my polaris rzr in a 14' enclosed trailer last weekend with my f150 and it was just too much for it (the trip srarted with therzr and all my gear on the back of the truck. but too much for the leafs.)

my goal is to be able to either
A: haul rzr in box of truck and row rent trailer/small camper
B: haul a 16' enclosed trailer with all gwar in it.

as far as unloaded power. would the f250 7.3l idi turbo be comparable to tlmy current f150 351?

as far as towing goes. how well would the idi turbo work? i like rhe fact that i get mt favorite body style and a motor and tranny with no electronics to give issues.

the f250 has 280,000KM and they are asking $1000 for it. the body appears to be in similar condition to my truck needing some work. but it is a loglng box which will help wirh hauling the rzr.

ideally id love to find a 97 f350 CC LB 4X4 powerstroke but those are hard to find here rhat dont have over 350,000 km so this 93 caught my eye.

any thoughts or opinions?

Unloaded your 351 will run circles around the 7.3. Heck, my little 302 has alot more pep unloaded. If i was towing something most of the time i would pop for the idi, but if it also serves dd duty i think i would stick with the 150 and toss some add a leafs on it.

One issue is that my f150is a shortbox and my rzr will only fit with the tailgate down. So hauling a camper and rzr on the back won't really work.
Ive been looking for a 3/4ton or 1 ton anyways. Was going to try for the 97 powerstroke but they're hard to find here in decent shape. And when ya do find one they want more for it then I could get a 2003 similar truck for

My last truck was an 85 6.9 idi non turbo 4speed.
My only complaints about it was top speed of 110km, forget about ever passing someone on the highway.

Would the 5speed and the turbo make adifference as far as that part goes?

Not sure about the 5 speed, but i had a 7.3 turbo and that thing was a dog. It pulled well but forget about passing anyone on the freeway

For hauling duties you'll like the 7.3l more. For driving around empty the 351 would have better throttle response and acceleration.

If you wanna just bump up to a 460, don't mind the gas prices maybe 2 mpg worse than the 351, I'd say try that route. There is a beautiful crew cab on eBay it's a 97 250

my other thought is to swap my 3:55 gears for 4:56 to work better with the 33" tires then it should pull better. and a set of 1ton leafs in the rear will help with the weight.

You can change gears and springs but you still have a 1/2 ton truck with a 1/2 ton frame and 1/2 ton axle with 1/2 ton brakes. You are still limited to what the truck is rated for.
