I would suggest sealing the back side of the inner door panels the way the modern day OEM manufacturers do it: Lay a rope of the non drying butyl rubber caulk rope all around the door edge and any openings into the door (including the handles) then stick on a sheet of heavy polyethylene sheet before installing the upholstered panels. The caulk will allw you to remove and replace the plastic sheet should you need to access the door interior in the future. The sheet will keep moisture from being trapped between the door inner metal skin and the upholstered panel.

My pistons came in today. Still waiting to here from my engine builder on how the block and crank looks.

 

I like how they put the logo on the skirt even though no one will ever see it.

 

I know, right? They state that its some kind of friction coating, so maybe it actually saves a little bit of money not to use the coating on that tiny section of the logo.

 

I think you will like those pistons. I recently disassembled a modest buck 306 for inspection. They took a pretty good track beating for a couple years and some occasional nitrous. The designer piston labels still look perfect. Pistons are pretty tough for the money.

 

Great to hear! These were the only pre-made forged pistons I could find for a 429.

So after a few days of trying to get the drivers door lined up and mounted, i have decided to use a different door. The metal around the lower hinge was apparently pretty thing, because it started cracking and bending when i was trying to bend the hinges. It will be a lot of work to get it solid there and I don't know if it would ever line up correctly. Luckily i do have another set of doors, which after looking over closer, I probably should have started with rather than the one I did. Ill have to cut out that lock/handle area again. Should go faster the second time though.

 

Your truck is NOT in that bad of shape ! Good luck with your on-going project. Yes, the Jag front end is the way to go and a lot cheaper than the Mustang. Had one question though. A 429 ci motor in a 1971 Galaxie ? I'm not he most informed Ford Guy out here, but that just doesn't sound right. A 390 maybe ? I could be wrong, been wrong before, just ask my ex-wife !

 

I'm thinking they were available with a 429. About 99% certain I've seen LTDs of that vintage with a 429 too.

 

I'm not certain that this one came out of a galaxie wagon, but it definitely is a 429. According to wikipedia, the 429 was available in the galaxie.

 

Nick, I just spent some time going thru your thread, and found it a very enjoyable experience. You are one very talented young man. I don't know why I allowed so much time to pass since the last time I check in on how you were doing, but I won't let it happen again. You are so far ahead of anything I can do, and are a fraction of my age. Keep up the good work.
