port and polish 302 heads?

I have a 1994 f150 302 sitting out back that I'm parting out. And I was wondering if it would be worth gasket matching the heads and pokishing them. I know the heads are really restrictive to begin with, so is it even worth my time to get them ported And then put them on my 1992 ?
I am also going to gasket match the intake on the motor to put in my 92.

My 92 isn't mass air, so would the changes in the head be significant enough that it would need a new tune or mass air swap? Or would the difference be so minimal that it wouldn't matter?

Any porting is worth something, for me it isnt worth the time seeing how many aftermarket heads are out there cheaply new and used and will be far better than just gasket matching. If you want to get something better than you have look into the used market.

Do you have any idea what the power gain would be? I'm not thinkin it will be a whole lot maybe 10rwhp?

It's worth it if you do the porting.A shop is going to want more than the gain in performance is worth.I just swapped out my Eddy perf. RPMs (from a vehicle that I'm trying to sell)for a set of e7's that I ported myself. It took me about 3-4 hours with a die grinder.I concentrated on the exhausts as they are the most restrictive.I was able to open up the port to just over an inch (1.095) across and grind down the thermactor boss.Concentrate on the roof and the sides of the port.Don't grind on the floor as you will likely hurt flow. There are plenty of port & polish threads here. It's amazing how tiny the OEM ports/runners are on the SBF heads.I'm only asking 800.00 for a low mile set of Perf. RPM heads,so you can see that a shop would have to do the work for VERY cheap to make it worthwhile.Power gain depends on several things(supporting mods)such as exhaust, intake, cam.Ported heads are just one peice of the engine puzzle.

Porting should always help but gasket matching is not part of a good porting job, it's all about the port shape, taper and size, if that ends up producing an opening the same as the gasket dimensions at the surface then you got lucky, but more often than not it won't match the gaskets exactly.
Besides.. the big bottleneck on a '92 truck motor is the cam, you'll gain far more by upgrading that and leaving the heads alone.

Sorry for the double post I am typing this on my phone. I have ready done a cam and bored 30 over on the motor the heads would go on. As well as I have a true dual exhaust.

This is just a thought of line I have been having. I need a new project and I thought this might be sonething i could do really cheap and gain a bit of knowledge ay the same time.

Hell I might do it just to do it. And if they come out good I'll put them on. If not oh well, all I did was waste time and no money. And I will learn something.

There is a lot more potential in these head than most think, all stock they flow about 150/106cfm per port (intake/exhaust) and when properly ported can reach about 220/180cfm which is right about what the Edelbrock Performers do. But it takes a CNC machine and lots of knowledge to get to that level, the best you'll likely achieve hand porting and after you do some research on the subject would probably be about a 30cfm gain give or take which could translate into 10-20hp depending on the whole engine combo, so it's not a total waste of time. Do a Yahoo/Google search for "porting E7TE cylinder heads" and have a read.
