F250 Hitch ratings
Hi:
So i just went to get draw bar and hitch ball to pull trailer/boat combo of about 10k lbs, and trailer hitch store discovered this on new F250 Diesel w/tow pkg.
I'm having to pay to get correct weight carrying hitch put on, sales guy is checking with gm to see if dealer can cover.
My question, is this normal or is Ford installing under-rated hitches on Super Dutys?
I really don't want to install a weight distributing system.
Thanks for any insights.

The hitch isn't underrated, it's just normal to install weight distribution once you get into the 7-10k# range of bumper pull trailer weights. Check out ball mounts and ***** next time you look, a 2" ball with 1" threads and most drops max out at 5-6k#. Past 5000# of trailer weight is when you need to start looking into stronger receiver hitches, triple *****, weight distribution, sway control, trailer brakes and everything that goes with all those.
