How long does original oil last with low miles?

It just occurred to me that since my F250, 6.7 has a build date of 4/11, and I just bought it less than 2 weeks ago, the engine oil has a lot of time on it, even though it only has 520 miles.

Should it be changed?

Up to you...

You'll find every answer under the sun in here. But it's really up to you! I mean it's your truck, your money, your piece of mind. Personally, I wait for the truck to tell me and then I change the oil myself. Diesel filters online is a decent place to buy your filters and I use Rotella T6 full synthetic 5-40- just because it works for me. Both of my trucks went 7k before the notificaion came I towed with my 2011 a little, no towing with my 2012 and that didn't make a difference. Must be my lead foot...

I think if I were in a position where I did not drive more than 7,000 miles in one year, I would change the oil annually.

Every spring I change the oils in all my small engines (lawn mowers, etc...)

Well, after stewing about this a little, I started doing some research, and found that Ford states in their fifth edition diesel Supplement that oil should be changed per the trucks message center OR one year.

Soooooo, I emailed my sales rep and provided him the web address, and stated that I was sold a new truck that needed an oil change the day I drove it off the lot, and that FMC owed me an oil change immediately.

Received a phone call today to bring it in for a free oil change. It didn't take a lot of effort on my part, but it worked out well.

I was just going to mention that. The vast majority of Ford dealers offer a free first LOF with the purchase of any new truck or car.

Ah crap. My build date is May 2011 and I picked up the truck a month ago.

Unless the oil goes bad just sitting there it should still be good. There is no diesel being pushed past the rings to dilute and contaminate the oil. I'm pretty sure that Ford was figuring that all the trucks were being driven at least some when they add the "once a year" into the equation.

I'd change it anyways, it's cheap insurance.

I probably should have changed it myself. If anything happens to the engine, I could have pointed to that as a reason. Now i cannot. he he
