Rear gas tank?

I am wondering if any has used the rear 38 gallon replacement tank from 1989 f150-f350 trucks in there 1992-1997 f150-f350? My rear tank is leaking and fiqured since it needs to be replaced might as well go bigger. Just wondering if the sending unit openings are same size. The part # is F670174 from replacement tanks. Thanks & I am sure this has been asked lots of times.

Well I took a gamble on the 1989 38 gallon rear tank. It is the same size just deeper. It fit nice had to bend some of the seems a little. I just finished the install tonight. I did not take pictures of sending unit modifications, the sending unit needs to be redone though because it reads full at all times now. I just filled it what a thirsty pig, made me . Here is a link to where I purchased tank New Fuel Tank Gas Silver F150 Truck F250 F350 38 Gallons Ford F-150 F-250 F-350 | eBay. Shipping was fast 3 days total bought on Monday received on Thursday. The piping modifications was fun to get right placement of pump but other wise not bad. The spare tire is in box for now thats the only down fall about conversion. I plan on 12v cummins swap hopefully next year. I will take some pictures of it soon.

I'm about to install the same tank in my 95. I think the original kit came with some copper tube to extend the lines? I got my tank from a friend that had installed it, then scrapped the truck, and gave me the tank.

Anyway, I know you didn't take pics, but how did you extend the lines?

I just used the copper tubes in the kit. They are working but should of tried steel brake line. It's going to be nice when towing or running north to father-n-laws for bow hunting.

I was thinking of using steel or stainless steel, whatever the stock lines are to the sending unit, and silver soldering. Much better joint, I think. I don't have the copper lines, they were destroyed when my buddy took the tank out.

Does your truck have the sending unit with the plastic cylinder around the fuel pump?

I suppose for the sending unit float, the arm could be lengthened so it could reach the top and bottom of the larger tank, that's definitely gonna be trial and error though.

I agree, the longer range is going to be great! My truck came with the single 19 gal tank from the factory. Right now when towing I can get about 230 miles out of a tank, but more is always better.
