Fuel Tank fun! 1991 F250 diesel with dual tanks.
So the rear tank on my F250 Diesel started leaking...
And I think to myself that maybe I should replace it before the front tank starts leaking... (Not that Ford truck fuel tanks eventually rust out or anything...)
So I buy a tank on-line from Advance. It's $99. There is a note on-line if I spend $100 I will get free shipping to my house and 15% off... So I order an oil filter also. Comes to $91 and change to my door.. Makes perfect sense to me.
Back to the truck. I knew this would be a dirty, messy job and it did not disappoint me. 21 years of stuck, rusty bolts. 21 years of crud build up.
But I digress... I removed the bed bolts, jacked up the bed to gain access to the fuel lines and remove the filler neck to drop the tank. Remove tank, (I am glad it cleared the hitch!) tackle the sending unit retainer ring and remove the sending unit. Only to have the fuel pick up strainer break. So I call the local Ford place today (7/28) and they can have the fuel pick up, retainer ring, gasket and two fuel line clips Monday (7/30)... So, how did you spend your Friday night?
Note, I am not complaining, bitching or moaning about this... It is what it is and needed to be done.

My line broke on the top side of the tank, where the line attaches. I heated it where it goes into the tank with a torch.(sending unit removed). Then I blew the old solder out with compressed air. Bent a 3/8 steel line into shape, soldered it in, attached rubber fuel line and back on the road for $5 of so.
