ELC and front cover failure
I was getting a labor quote on my major upgrade project today, and after I figured there was no way in hell I could afford to pay them $2k dollars we switched to some 6.0L small talk. When I mentioned how getting rid of the Ford Gold coolant was the best thing any owner could do, their top dog 6.0 Mechanic chimed in that ELC will cavitate and drill a hole in the front cover in no time. So if his statement is true I think we are all screwed. Will a coolant filter remove the Ford Gold silicates or do we just need to decide which is easier to replace, a front cover or an oil cooler. I hope he's just seeing some other cause of front cover failures.

I am running gold. But my initial hunch is if ELC punched a hole in front covers the guys on this forum would know it. Since a bunch of them regularly recommend ELC or gold, and recommend factory stuff on some things (like head gaskets) but after market things on others (like ARP studs) if there was that much of a problem they wouldn't use it.... let alone recommend it. Also consider we have several diesel mechanics that regularly post....

One thing to keep in mind this guy really is a kid, maybe in his mid 20's, so he's still wet around the ears.

I see
If he found one with the RED ELC in it and a Hole in the front cover Then Odds Are it was the Owner Messed it up not the ELC IMO
Iv seen folks with a Leak fill with water all summer no coolant till winter
The Problem is They RUST Very Fast within 24 hours with water or weak mix
You Literaly have to VC-9 the cooling system flush it clear and get 50/50 mix in it ASAP that Day or leave the system Drained

Do you have the back heater?
With some coolants too much can be as bad as too little.
If your in the range for the % you will be ok. Not sure what
reading you should get with a refractometer but that would
be the way to make sure you in the range if it will work with
the gold stuff and I just read some where that it won't.
How ever I did find this little item
