Yes thank you. I'm gonna give it a try when I get off work.

I just looked, and I do not see any positive or negative markings on the solenoid, I would assume that the positive side of the solenoid is the side that the positive battery cable connects to.

Good luck, let me know how it goes.

I finally got it to turn over from the switch but it doesn't stop turning over. Any ideas why?

Starter solenoid aka starter relay.

If you need assistance, you might call Green Sales (513-731-3304) in Cincinnati. They have the largest stock of Ford obsolete parts on the planet.

Are you saying that's why it keeps turning over?

No, I'm saying that the starter solenoid is also known as the starter relay.

It sure can be. More on that later. Throwing parts at a problem can work too, but it's usually done by someone who doesn't have to spend their own money. It can get pretty expensive.

It's considered good practice to replace a starter with a new starter relay (aka solenoid). This assumes the rest of the starter and charging system is in good shape. After 50 years or more, that isn't the case. All the rust and corrosion on the connections and grounds causes lots of grief. It roasts starters and alternators and solenoids. Then to complicate all this, the modern el-cheapo replacement parts aren't any good out of the box and may be worse than what you're replacing. If you're a "parts changer" only this will really cause confusion.

Use good quality heavy duty starter parts with clean, tight grounds and connections, a fully charged setviceable battery and good alternator etc, and your troubles will be over.

Well, now you at least have power.

Some of the other posters surely know more than me.

Starter might be bad? Just guessing.

Yeah, my bad, I am not a mechanic, I always just called it a solenoid.

I have been to Green Sales, and I agree, they are great.
