Help, what is this please

So I took this picture a long time ago, after I got the truck. It was this bad then. Now, it's twice that bad. I'm doing a major overhaul of parts and I want to get this addressed. Obviously I could just change the hoses, and that would help too, but I don't want to do that and not fix the problem. I've not been able to open it up and see where it's coming from yet, but I will when some of these parts come in. I just wanted to see if anyone could get me some help first so I could order anything I needed to get ordered so I could do the fixes all at once.

I also looked through my chiltons book, but couldn't find anything on it. Please help. Thanks!

Looks to be tranny cooler lines. Guessing someone fixed a broken line in the past. Do they go up to a cooler mounted in front of the radiator? (looks like just above hole in rubber). Follow the lines back, they should go in the passenger side of the transmission.

Replace the rubber line and snug the clamps. A little fluid will run out, but not a big problem. Check fluid level after fixing. There is near 12 qts in the system, so if a few cups come out, not a problem.

That makes sense. I'll look at it this weekend when I open it up. Sounds simple enough if that's it. Don't know why the transmission place didn't take care of that when they replaced the tranny! Grrr!

I may also flush, drain and refill the system too. No telling what's in there.

They likely didn't look that far forward when they did the tranny. I would suspect they only took care of what was "broken" and figured that was a typical fix (it is BTW) of a broken line.

When you buy an aftermarket cooler, they usually only give you some 3/8" rubber line to install it with.

If you want something a bit more permament, and if the lines are long enough. You could use a brake line flare and union. That would be the best fix. Rubber hose is typical.

By the looks of the lines, it might still have the radiator mounted cooler(inside), then come out to external cooler and then back to transmission.
