Can I Fit 35"s on a stock 78 4x4 ?

Can I fit 35" tires under a stock 78 4x4 assuming the springs are not worn out? I am picking up a truck but the tires on it are shot so I was going to bolt my old 35"'s on to get it home, the 35"s are on stock 17.5" rims the 78 has a HD Dana 44 front with disc brakes and the standard Dana 60 rear.

Thanks in advance

Mason

Cool I just need to get the truck home so a little rubbing shouldn't be a big deal, I doubt the tires on the truck will make it out of the parking lot, atleast the spare is good.

I'll see if I can post pictures of it tomorrow, it was 300 bucks LOL!

I have a stock 79 F250 with 35s and, as mentioned above, they do rub a little at the front corner of the wheel well at full lock.

I'm guessing you meant 16.5" rim? 17.5 is a really obscure trailer size, lol.

35's will fit but its really tight. You will probably scrub going over bumps and hit lock to lock as well. If youre just bringing it home for a short drive it should be ok but its less than ideal.

ok maybe the 250 we had was just worn out, it had 33's when we got it and they rubbed the wheel wells. I've seen one with 35's and it was tight as well.

It's pretty tight. There is only 2.75 inches of room between tire and the front bottom corner of the wheel well. Be careful backing up at full lock, it will tear out the plastic inner fender liner.

I would suggest keeping heavy articulation to a minimum. But driving on the road you should have no problem.

So I lied.... They were only 33s they fit fine. There was however a wasps nest in the hole in the bed rail by the tailgate that was fun. I am driving home tonight after a day at the beach with the fam ill post pics tonight

WOW this truck is nicer than my 73! Which kinda sucks cause I was gonna part it out but I am not sure if i have the heart to cut this thing apart, it's too nice, literally everything works perfect. I snapped two pictures before I swapped wheels. I also got two after the swap, didn't get any tonight since I got home after dark, but tomorrow I'll get pictures of everything.

These two are after the 33's were on, they fit great no rubbing at all, man I forgot how nice power steering is...

Gues who's supercab that is! I picked my truck up less than two blocks from Chasetruck754's shop.

Anyway best 300 bucks I ever spent, more to come tomorrow, now I have the hard decision of what to do with two good trucks.....

yeah there was a wasp's nest in the bed of my '79 too. All we had was brake cleaning fluid... man that stuff drops wasps faster than wasp spray. Try it some time.
