the advantage is never having to change it again.

i have Petes covers on mine, and it is still like new after 6 years and 50,000 miles. all i do is change the cover for a clean one every 3-4 months.

Clay at Riff Raff has them for $29 instead of the $75 at Napa. Even with shipping I'm pretty sure that Clay is a better deal.

Nah, any intake is ok for CA smog, no CARB # necessary. Most techs do not know this tho. Print out this pdf below and take a hiliter to the good news on page 6.

I the 6637 never looks dirty to me, but I can tell when it is time to replace because I blow more black smoke in the performance tunes. The filter covers are cool but I go cheap and use panty hose. Also do not bother trying to use the filterminder with a 6637, never shows anything. I put a cap over the hole to keep it clean and tucked it down under the harness on the fender.

The first smog check I got after the law was enacted, the smog guy was fine with the filter since I still had the OEM intake tube. This year I had to get another one and the smog guy told me that unless I put my OEM airbox back on he would fail me because if he "made an exception" for me everybody would expect it. After he told me that he would "hook me up" by allowing me to leave without failing and being charged, I never went back and found a friendlier inspection station that understood the rules better. I don't know if the CARB exception for the filter is going away (as the smog guy told me), but make sure you talk with the smog inspector before you drive your truck in to see if he/she will accept the 6637 filter or you will be wasting your money.

Just my .02

I was going to say, bend over and grab your ankles at NAPA. Clay's place and FleetFilter have all quality filters for our truck and great prices.

You DO NOT have to change it here in California to pass smog. The C.A.R.B. states that you can run Any air intake on a diesel, and any exhaust as long as there is no CAT in the exhaust.

LINK https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/a...8&d=1326601426

You can run a bigger exhaust with a cat, but you have to install a cat in it.
This year was the first year i got hit with the inspection, I have a 6637 and a 4" exhaust and it passed with no questions.
