zf5 swap questions

i am putting a zf5 behind the 460 in my '97 fsd in place of the auto thats there now. i have read that the engine will run better with the computer for a manual trans truck.

can i assume that the computer from any 460 powered truck with a 5spd is going to work (ie f250/350/fsd)? or only a fsd?

edit...

the more i look into this, it appears the pedals, bracketry, master and slave are not going to work on my truck. the truck is a '97, and all the donor parts came from an '89. the trans itself will bolt up, right?

Not sure about the computer but the trans will bolt up if it's from a 460.Did you physically try to bolt up the pedal assembly? You may need to install the brake and clutch pedal as a pair.I don't believe that there were any changes in the pedals from 89 to the mid 90's.You might have to find some untapped bolt holes.Everything should be there to install the clutch pedal assembly.

The pedal support is definitely different.

upon exhaustive research, it seems that the the pedal bracketry is different, but it seems i can use the '89 master/slave assembly with the correct pedal bracketry.

anyone have a pedal assembly appropriete for a '97 fsd?

You might want to make a post in the WTB section of the marketplace forum.

I did an '89 into my '87 that had the T-19.
The transmission input shaft is larger in diameter and requires a new clutch.

In, or around, 1996 the ZF5 was upgraded from s42 to s47.
The difference being the torque rating (420 vs 470 foot lbs)

What transmission do you have in there now?

What is in there NOW?

The s42 was the only one available until the mid '90's (95 or 96, I don't recall)

I would use the clutch for the '89 flywheel you got from the doner truck.
Don't forget you need to change the pilot bearing in the crank too.

Get the parts to fit the other parts you have!
There's no sense buying parts to fit the truck that never even had a ZF5.

I imagine there is something in the crank, but I have never pulled an E4OD.
