driveshaft bolt size

My friends 7.3 has a bad driveshaft balance issue. We are planning to remove it this weekend and send it out to have it balances and replace the U-joints as well as the hanger bearing. Does anyone know what size of bolts thery are?

Another thing I noticed was a leak at the driveshaft to diff point. How hard is it to fix and what's involved?

Thanks

Year model, 2wd or 4wd, F250, F350 SRW, F350 DRW? These things make a difference as to the bolts and the pinion seal that may be leaking.

Bolts on flange at the Transfer Case end should be 12mm 12pt, the Carrier Bearing hanger IIRC is 5/8" (at least mine are), and on the Yoke at Rear Diff is 5/16" (2002+ may have the round flange like on the TC).

Here is a pdf on the pinion seal replacement. Drive Pinion Seal Replacement Dana 80.pdf
You don't really need all the special tools, except to a thin wall 1-7/8" socket for the pinion nut and a torque wrench for the proper tightening of the nut. We used a 4:1 torque multiplier and some extension adaptors to do the ones we've replaced. We held the yoke with a large pipe wrench.

I have a pinion seal if you need it. Just replaced my axle due to the loss of 4 teeth on ring gear. Now the pinion seal is just floating in the center console....still. 4yrs later.

Is this right? 597 - 677nm, torque for the pinion/yoke nut? Where do I get a torque wrench to handle this torque.
Anything else I need to follow to pull out the pinion/yoke. The driveshaft needs to have it's u-joints and hanger bearing replaced. Having the shop balance as well.
So any other tips?

That's where the torque multiplier that Roland mentioned comes in handy. 4 to 1 means you only need a wrench that reads 25% of that value.

So the torque is correct? Where can I get a "4 to 1" multiplier?
Another question. Do I have to replace the nut?

I think the nut will be fine. One of them fancy tool stores (professional grade) will have or can order the torque multiplier. I've heard a Ford diesel tech say just to use a good air impact and tighten it up as much as the gun will go, but I won't tell you that's what you should do. Of course I also don't remember seeing a torque multiplier for less than $200, and if you're not sure the mechanic would torque it down properly anyway, it might be worth considering.

Try this. Also the bolts on my driveshaft to rear yoke are 8mm.

I'm lucky. The company, I work for, lets me borrow ours anytime I need to use it. Problem is, I can't loan it out to others and have to be there when it's used.

I am trying to find the specs for front drive shaft bolts for 2003 f150 xlt 4wd 5.4l also if you could tell me the specs for the bolts that hold the front cv axles to the transfer case. My truck was stolen and I got it back minus the front drive shaft and axles I bought the parts but they weren’t thoughtful enough to leave the bolts to put them on with😬 I am having a frustrating time Identifying thanks

This is a fairly old thread, plus a forum for 7.3 Powerstrokes. I'm not sure that the bolts would be the same for a 1/2 ton IFS pickup. Might try checking the tech section in the forum specific to your truck.
