Double Din in our Trucks

Has anybody tried, or seen, a modded dash to accommodate a double din head unit in our trucks? I have really been thinking about trying to figure out a way to do it. Seems like it could be done with a little cutting and fussing. I know there are flip out single din units, but that's not what I want. Anybody have any thoughts?

Move the heater controls. Anything can be done of you have the time and resources.

Will the flip outs even work. I've been told by two shops in the past that they won't unless you either don't lock them in place. Or you don't have it sitting straight up and down.

Flip outs will work, but they suck anyways unless you buy a 600 dollar one.
The screens in the cheap ones go out a lot. I hated selling them.

The easiest way to do a double din in our trucks is to go up, not down.

but then you have to build custom dash.

If you move the heater controls, its the same thing, but more hastle.

Well remember that I have a 5 speed, so moving the heater controls probably not a feasible option.

What about an overhead console? My rig is a "Classy Chassie" upfit and it has an overhead that originally had a cb in it. You might start looking for one to modify or have built.

I've thought on the double din thing a few times b/c I would like to have one.. You could move the A/C controls down a little, you could go up and do some glass on the dash to make it look right, or build a center console that holds it. If I was to do it, I think I would go up and glass the top of the dash to make it look right, but I'm just going to try one of the nice flip outs. The second I start having problems with pre-mature motor or screen failure, I'll go back to the regular single din.

There are a couple guys that have pulled it off. Here is pic of one of them.

This guy did it by just moving down into the space above the climate controls. Looks pretty good in my opinion.

Edit: here are some more pictures of how he did it. This was in a thread over at PSN.

I was afraid that might be the case. I mean, "I can see them, what do you mean you can't see the pictures"!? LOL

Let me post a link to them and see if you can pull them up that way. I am guessing not, but we will give it a shot.

How about now? I know that forum is funny with their pictures, some of them you have to be logged in to see...

Alright, well there is always a work-around.

Here are the pictures, copied to my computer and uploaded to my Picasa account. I think that should work now.
