Noob, new truck, with pics!

Shop called me back. Needs all new rear brakes everything. Have to take apart the axle? Idk, shop I trust, so I told them to do it... $1100 though. Anything else I would have brought it home and messed with myself. After all this brake work I am thinking more about a straight six swap.

the 300 is a great motor...and would help on mpgs.. but you will not have quite the towing power you will with the 460...the main difference in my eyes is the 300 is very dependable and a work horse!!! and it is a great truck motor! Just dont expect to tow anything heavy at fast speeds.
And welcome to FTE!!! and thats a great find, I think

How much weight do you plan on towing? How often?
That 460 makes 200 horse. The 300 makes 145 horse. Big difference in get up and go between the engines. With that said, the 300 is a great work horse - a true truck engine. But if fuel economy isn't that big of a deal, I'd stick to the Big Block.
If you had a manual transmission I would push the I6 swap. Since you have the automatic I'd stick to the 460.
By the way, which automatic is this?

Honestly, not sure which automatic it has. Picked it up from the shop Thursday, $1200 after a 10% discount since they kept it three days. All new rear lines, drums, pads, cylinders... After putting all that money into it, I can't afford a boat (main reason I got the truck) so I am probably going to end up cleaning it up real well and putting it up for sale or trade. Really do not need the big block at all. But if anyone is looking for an F-250, I would trade to a I6 F150 of equal value. I could justify keeping that around. I'll be sure to post some pics when I get it cleaned up real well, but that will probably be late next week.

If engine & trans are original, it's a C6.
F250's do bounce along pretty firm empty.
But now with the steering & brakes done, if the engine & trans seem good, you probably have a good base to start from - & a good towing combo mechanically.
There are different capacity bumpers - I think the heavier one still only has a 2000lb tow rating.
