Every truck is slightly different, but you will find 99% of the people will tell you to stick with Shell Rotella T, or Chevron Delo. Plain dino oil. However, the Rotella Synthetic is excellent to, as are a few other synthetics such as Amsoil, Schaeffer's, etc.

Also, most people state they get less foaming from Shell Rotella than Chevron Delo...but your mileage may vary.

To be fair, I think bypass filtration is more important than using synthetic. And if you use synthetic, sticking with Shell Rotella Synth is fine...no reason to pay that much more for Amsoil or others. Frankly, I think I will be switching to Shell Synth in my trucks, because while I like the Amsoil, I don't think the price is equivalent to being that much better than Shell synthetic. Especially with me using a bypass filter.

Filtration is huge for longevity.

You will soon get a bunch of responses on personal favorites. As for me, I switched from Rotella T to Rotella T6 (synthetic) as it makes cold weather starts easier and cured my case of the romp romps. (sound the engine makes during cold weather starts until it smoothes out).

I was wondering the same thing Its time to change my oil in my 7.3 excursion. I changed it with motorcraft oil and filter but Im sticking with The ford filter but was debating on t6. I know a lot of people like rotella and I prefer synthetic but have little experience with diesel oils.

I tried Ford 15-40 and had to add oil between changes, never did with Rotella 15-40. I now use Rotella T6 .

I have switched all of my PS's from Rotella-T to Rotella-T6 and extended oil changes from 5000 miles to 7500 miles. Changed mostly because of cold weather starts, all three are usually in heated shop but sometimes sit out on snowmobiling trips and I really like the start ability after a few days out in the cold.

I ran the Delvac 15-40 for over 100k no problems

Lately using the Valvoline Syn 5-40, NAPA has it on sale a couple times a year for $19.99 no romps in the winter

I run rotella t6 in all of my diesels, I have also worked on some powerstrokes with over 300,000 miles that looked like they had the original oil in them from the factory.

X2. Oil before was Rotella T6 synthetic, Truck smoked on start up , started seeping. My truck with 350,000 + does not like a 5w oil.

IMHO there is no "best" oil. You will find a lot of T6 fans around here cause it is a great value, some wally worlds have started to carry Delo 5w40 which is a little cheaper.

Personally, I run 15w40 (Usually Delvac or Delo, no real rhyme or reason as to why) in the spring, summer and fall and 10w30 (usually Rotella T5) in the winter.

My last change I started using the dezzel oil from Tractor Supply! It meets or exceeds all manf. requirements. The price is pretty decent to. That reminds me I got to get some more!!
