I may have "oopsed" my MAF

Thinking that I was doing a good thing this spring I gave the truck a new air filter and good cleaning. I noticed a bit of fine white powder on the intake going toward the MAF. I removed the MAF and noticed it also had the fine coating on it.

I went out and purchased some MAF cleaner and gave it a good spray and cleaned the exterior of the unit with a soft cloth.

Now my MPG is maybe 2-3 worse than it was in the fall before storage when on the highway. I have put a few hundred km on it since the cleaning and I would think the computer has relearned all it nees to..

Plugs were changed just before storage along with a fresh oil change.

What would the signs of a bad MAF be? Driveability seems ok, maybe a little low on power.

Yeah the battery was out of it for about 6 months.

I cleaned the maf and reinstalled and let it sit for a day or 2 before hooking up the battery to make sure all cleaner had evaporated.

I called the local dealer and they want over $300 for a new one.

Are the aftermarket ones any good? Any brands to stay with or avoid??

Maybe worth taking it to a dealer to have them run a diagnostic on it. They should be able to tell you if the MAF sensor is bad. Then you can do the work. At least then you are not throwing parts at it blindly.

Did you get the rubber plug on the MAF wiring back in the airbox and has it stayed there?

I realized after I did mine a while back the plug was hanging out of the box, and the resulting air leak made a huge difference in mileage, while not throwing a code.

The truck is a 2008 with the cartridge style unit on the side.

All wires reconnected easily and it seated well.

I'll have a good look to see if there are any leaks and make sure the plug is seated well again.....

I checked the maf and hand calculated my last tow. All seem within the normal limits.

Dang my lie o meter seems to be a bit off.

I will be towing this weekend and will see what happens.

Changed the oil last night and installed a fumoto valve. All should be good to go.

t repaces your oil pan drain plug with a spring loaded nylon ball valve with a little nipple on the end to attach a hose to.

To change the oil you depress the spring held lever and simply drain the oil into a jug rather than messing with a pan and then jug.

The only thing you would need a pan or bucket for would be the filter.
