Harvesting GT40P heads

Hi all, I will be visiting the big city on business in a few days and hope to buy a set of these heads from a 2001 Explorer that is listed as having a burnt electrical harness, but is otherwise all together from the photo in the ad.

As I will only have a short time between commitments to take the heads off, could anyone advise me of any special tools I need for the job, or time consuming surprises I might encounter? I haven't worked on these vehicles before.

I'll bring a standard and metric socket set, wrenches, screwdrivers etc. and a couple pails and containers for oil and antifreeze spillage.

Thanks.

Got a cordless sawsall? If so don't even bother trying to remove the exhaust manifold bolts from the heads just cut the pipes off below the collectors and take the whole works with you.

That's a good idea, since I want the exhaust manifolds as well. But I don't have the cordless sawzall, unfortunately. Another tool to add to my list.

Well the seller never got back to me, so it's all moot.

I think it's harder to find this stuff in Canada, almost all the Exploders I find are V6s.

If you found them on Craigslist that would explain the seller not responding to you.Lots of stuff on there but it's 50/50 on wether or not you get a reply.I've seen gt40p heads come up for sale in the lowermainland occasionally.Just have to keep your eyes open for them.

Yep, it was Craig's List. There was no phone number, just an email. Emails are easily ignored, or filtered out as spam.

I'm also looking for the weird Exploder exhaust manifolds for test fitting into an older car chassis.
