Hey Folks,

one other issue popped up this weekend;

I finally got to check the 51's rear gear's oil level, it's low and from the looks of it black as tar!

I only had a 'tad' bit of GL3/4/5 Napa 85wt oil left from topping the transmission off, so I put it in.

What type of gear oil/weight should I be putting in the Rear gear carrier?
I remember the 66 mustang took a hypoid 85/90wt and was kinda thinking the trucks probably the same.

Would more of the napa GL 3/4/5 [80-85wt] oil be fine?

Just curious, figured I'd better check before I dump it & change it. no need to do it twice!

Most of the time 90 wt . Book says over 100 degrees 140 wt under100 degrees 90 wt below freezing park in bedroom put wife in garage (just kidding honey)

 

I use 75w90, and it gets plenty hot around here. They do make 75w140, tho.
