Is there any way to remove the EGR valve on a 4.6L without pulling the engine?

Does anyone have any tricks to get around the very tight space to replace this valve?

i'll consider your post as sincere. EGR's are just bolt off and bolt on parts. Is there something specific to your particular vehicle that makes it difficult to remove the eGR? it should be easy.

 

Yes this is a sincere question.

This particular vehicle is a 1992 Grand Marquis and the EGR valve is so close to the firewall that I can barely get my hand in to just feel the top of the bolt heads let alone get any tools in there.

In addition I can't even see the tube that ties into the exhaust header.

I was hoping that someone had done this before and could give me a tip on how to remove this valve given the tight area to work in.

that explains it, you mentioned 4.6L but i didnt know you were looking at an application for a car. I have no experience with your particular problem but maybe someone like Racerguy will chime in. you might also want to post on fordtech site
