K&N intake trips CEL

So i installed a K&N intake in my 2011 f350 and i did approx 600 miles until my cheek engine light came on P2073 code popped up for the maf. i do a combination of highway and city driving. it tripped on in heavy stop and go traffic and kept coming on after i reset it in the city... i finally reset it on the way home and did about 45 miles on highway.... light stayed off. anyone come across this? remedies? id hate to go back to stock after the 3 mpg gain

Sounds like it was oiled a little too heavy. I prefer the dry type elements on any vehicle with a MAF sensor for that reason. Not much you can do about it.

Please update us on your CEL. I've always had k&n filters on all my vehicles to include my mc. I wasn't aware that there was one available for our trucks.

subscribing. I was just getting ready to get one and I was not aware that they would cause a CEL. Please keep us posted.

I'm getting it replaced with a power core Volant. I'm putting in the oem for the time being before it comes in just to make sure there's no issue. Will keep you posted.

My aFe S2 came with the attached letter stating that it could throw a CEL. Mine never did but I know some did early on. The letter states a different CEL though. P0299 - Turbocharger/Supercharger A Underboost Condition, which does not make a lot of sense........

I believe P2073 - Manifold Absolute Pressure/Mass Air Flow - Throttle Position Correlation at Idle is what most people were getting.

Thanks

I would not use an oiled air filter in these trucks. For that matter not in the GM or dodge to boot.

I wonder if there is any improvement with the air flow anyway.

On my GMC I had an oiled filter. Never really cared for it and only kept it very lightly oiled.
When I decide to do the tuner, exhaust and the rest of the expensive upgrades I added the Banks ram air intake.

After spending the money and doing the intake twice, I found a study that showed the best performing intake on the market for the Duramax engine was the factory system.

I'll be keeping the stock intake on this truck

well, back to stock intake for over a day now and no cel light...
the boost gauge is steady now when accelerating, as with the KN it tended to spool up and drop a bit, unless you really stepped on it. Volant power core comes in next week... hopefully it won't trip the cel.

Let us know how the Volant works!

Not trying to knock it but I am not sure I am a big fan of the way it leaves the bottom 1/2 of the airbox in and mounts on top of it?? Why not take that out and make room for a bigger filer?

aFe seems to have a much larger (and dirtier) filter.....

Thanks

I have the AFE stage 7 which is oiled. I'm about to clean it after 50,000 miles of service. Never given me any problems and the sound of the motor is great.

AFE DPF back tailpipe is sitting in my garage waiting for install. Can't wait but I'm not expecting much other than a cosmetic change.

Subscribing too as I would like to know if you first responders can identify any tangible benefit to the K&N on a turbo diesel...

Have had it on our gas turbo'ed vehicles just because
and other than HIGH RPM air flow, not sure it helps in anyway....

I didn't notice any benefit with the aFe other than better sound. I put it on mainly because the stock system kept getting plugged with snow in the winter. The aFe still gets packed with snow when driving in heavy snowfall in the winter (without a winter front on) but not to the point where it throws a CEL like the stock system did. At least you can dry out the aFe filter and re use it. The stock ones were garbage after being packed with snow. Went through 3 stock filters the first winter

Thanks

You will hear a difference, I noticed a difference in throttle response with the Airaid.
