Psst-psst engine noise

I have a 2005 F150, 5.4 triton. I bought the truck used and it came with an Edge tuner. It's lifted with 35's.

Under mild acceleration I get a psst-psst-psst-psst-psst-psst type noise. Sounds almost like air... It only happens in drive when you get on the gas and put a load on the engine but not always. It doesn't seem to happen if you mash the pedal...

I can't seem to replicate this sound in the driveway.

I've never heard this sound before. Any ideas?

I've been searching the net and this site... the only thing I can find that sounds close is turbo flutter.

I don't have a turbo.

Any help please?

Thanks!

Its hard to tell from your description, maybe an exhaust manifold leak.

I know the description is weak. It's similar to the cut off sound from an air pump. But they are short bursts...

Maybe an exhaust leak?

Are all of your spark plus in place? Some of these motors had p problems where they would spit out the plugs. You may have one out of place.

yikes. I hope it's not a plug issue.

I'll hit it with carb cleaner and see if I get a surge. The truck runs great, no noticeable power loss at all. Just the noise.

This is gonna have to be a tomorrow project.

Thanks!

Most likely an exhaust leak.

Try to figure out which side, it may be a manifold to exhaust pipe gasket. Se if you can tighten it up, or stop off at an exhaust shop for $20 bucks.

interesting. Mine is stock however. I finally broke down and took it in. They couldn't find anything and told to not worry about it....

guess I'll put some louder exhaust on and ignore it.

I did have the shop change the plugs. Everything I've read about them had me uneasy. And, I hade water in the front diff.

As of today; all new fluids, new plugs, and no error codes.
