2008 F350 6.4L Diesel NADA vs Dealer WOW!

I went to two different dealers this week to attempt a trade in for a 2012 6.2L gas truck. My 2008 6.4L diesel is valued by NADA for trade in value, at $35,000. Each dealer is offering $10,000 under that. Saying that they can't move diesel's right now and everybody is trading them in for gas trucks.
Has anybody else seen this occur?

I'm not suprised to see diesels fall out of favor. NADA has never been a good gauge of a vehicles value. It's a lies in lies out system. The salesmen write made up deals to get buyers in to new cars by giving them inflated trade in credit. And those deals are used to build the NADA data. I think what they can't sell is a 6.4l with a 100,000 miles on it. Folks don't want to own these trucks out of warranty. It's a tough situation for us. The only thing to do is drive it and hope nothing major breaks or eat the loss. This has been coming for a while. First diesel started costing more than high test instead of less than regular, then the diesel trucks went from much better mileage than a gasser to worse (thank you EPA) mileage than a gasser. But, if you have any heavy hauling to do you still get a much better result with a diesel. So, it may take a few years until the marginal diesel owners get out. You know, the guys who tow a HD motor cycle or a couple jet skis or a 26 ft travel trailer. Then, if the government hasn't totally destroyed them the diesel truck will be king again. I'm just gonna keep towing cause I couldn't tow my trailer with a gasser.

Where are you located? My dealership said they are at a shortage for 2008 diesels and are willing to pay top dollar for them. If you are anywhere near East Dallas, TX you should check out SouthWest Ford.

Don't get hung up on the trade amount, ask for the difference, that is all that matters. I also have a hard time believing any '08 is worth $35K in trade.

Agreed, I am here in Waco and I have had Southwest Ford and Town East Ford from Dallas call me on several occassions and offer me a good price, over the phone sight unseen. Maybe its the Texas market as we are a pickup truck state.

I just checked KBB and my truck (see signature) was at $31000 person to person, I think trade is always a bit more. I'd take that, but the problem is if you trade on a new diesel I don't see how you're gaining much unless what you have is real high mileage. I don't see trading one piece of poor technology for another. I'm gonna hold out until somebody shuts the EPA down and we go back to the 7.3L in new trucks. I'm not however, holding my breath.

Just going by what NADA says. 2008 F350 Crew Lariat, no sunroof, no navigation, 51000 miles. Clean trade in value $35,000. But I am now seeing here in the northeast as from what dealers are telling me, there's a glut in the market with diesel's right now.

The dealer always tries to screw you on a trade.
For them to sell a vehicle, heck thats what they do, so they know you don't want to be bothered to begin with.
And make sure you watch at the financing desk, I've heard a few horror stories lately, with banks jacking the interest.
We were getting taken, and didn't even notice. The payment just went up 70$ one month. In the fine print, they jumped to some retarded interest.

We switched banks, and got 3.5% with disability included on that.

The way I got away from Dodge...I owned a Ram 1500 Hemi in 2008 and wanted to switch to a 2500 Ram Cummins. the Dodge dealer wouldn't even offer me a price. He told me to look at his lot that was over stocked with Ram 1500s, he would even low ball me just pretty much told me to buzz off. Went to the Chevy dealer and they gave me more then I wanted. Chevy was to glitchy so traded on the one I have now and got more for it then I paid for it. alls well that ends well and I dont think it is specific to diesels.

On the 2012 F250 gas truck that I was looking at, sticker was $47K, they were only discounting it by $1700. THey offered .9% financing for 3 three years.
Bottom line was my truck and $22K got the 2012 F250 XLT Crew 6.2L.
"Sorry Howie, NO DEAL!"

That looks pretty good if you're not over 100,000 miles. Then the value drops hard.

They are giving you an "auction price". I just had the same experience trying to trade my 2011 6.2L in on a 2008 6.4L. Bought the certified pre-own 6.4L (27K miles) and am now trying to sell the 11 6.2L. I really like this truck. Lots of power but mileage sucks compared to my previous 7.3 and 6.0
